SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and production
Looking at the different SDG goals we see that Chasse can improve on SDG 12. This because
responsible consumption and production can be improved in a lot of places and with a lot of
different methods. Therefore this chapter is written on how to improve SDG 12 at Chasse.

SDG 12
SDG 12 stands for responsible consumption and production which means ensuring sustainable
consumption and production patterns. Producing less waste is a big example for this goal. More
products are wasted everyday. 13.3% of the food is already wasted before it reached the retail
markets and 17% will then be wasted on consumer level (Goal 12 | Department of Economic and
Social Affairs, n.d.) In total 1/3th of the food is wasted (SDGsOnStage, 2019) and this has to
change. Which is why 193 countries signed the SDGs contract in 2015 to make an end to poverty,
inequality and climate change by 2030. (SDGsOnStage, 2019)

Stakeholders
For the stakeholders we see that the supplier is an important factor. This because when Chasse
wants to reduce its waste they need less supplies from the supplier. Hereby the supplier is an
important stakeholder. But besides this, the government and its waste services are also important.
Because these does not have to come by so often to pick up the waste. Reducing waste is very
important for chasse. In this way they do not pay for useless supplies and so they do not pay for
to much waste. For the Paper & Paint event from Chasse there is one more important stakeholders
and these are the children and parents who come to the event. These could learn a lot about used
products and how to used them in a good way instead of just throwing it away. Without these
people there would not be a Paper & Paint event.

The 5 R’s
Refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and rot are the 5R’s (Johnson, 2021). When using all 5 of the R’s
Chasse will become more and more sustainable and with a good zero-waste management. If
Chasse refuses more products which they will not need they will have less waste. They can do
this by reducing the need of products. When reducing products some of the stakeholders get
affected which is also stated above. Reusing or also known as repurposing is a good and easy
way of becoming more sustainable. It might be a good idea for Chasse to donate the left over food
to a food bank or to start a To good to go service. In this way the food gets another place where
it will get a second chance. But not only the food can be reused, also things like popcorn baskets
and empty toilet rolls can be used. For example in an event like Paper & Paint. Hereby they will
not just be thrown away but they will be repurposed. Also the last R can be implemented. The R
of rot, here it is meant to let the leftover food rot and so make it into compost. This might not be
really useful for Chasse because they mostly sell sugary snacks but for the restaurant it could
help, and a possibility would be to donate the compost to local farmers or community gardens to
give them better soil.

The 5 P’s
SDG 12 is focused on one of the 5 P’s, the challenge the Planet is facing (The 5Ps of the SDGs:
People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership, n.d.). It wants to achieve a better and more
healthy planet so that other generations can have the same that we have now and with the climate
crisis which is a boiling hot topic these days (Unlocking SDGs, 2018). The paper & Paint event
