Introduction
Non-traditional healing practices in order to find cure for the disease are common in
most of the civilization. Nontraditional healing practice most of the time is seen as part of
cultural and religious belief. Some of the non-traditional methodologies adopted in healthcare are
osteopathy, mind-body medicine and naturopathic medicine (Simó et al., 2015). Non traditional
health treatments are usually not based on scientific reasons rather on cultural belief. In this
paper writer is trying to discuss about nontraditional health care practices in three different
cultures (Nepalese, Hmong and Chinese). And nontraditional health options in my area.
Non-Traditional Health Care Practices in Nepalese culture
The home remedy practice is common in Nepalese culture. Many time people try home
remedies and seek for medical help only when symptoms get worsen or not resolved. For
example when people have common cold and cough they stay in home and take remedies like
garlic, ginger, turmeric. When symptoms get worsen to pneumonia or bronchitis than only they
seek the health care treatment. There is provision of flu shot or influenza shot but people are
reluctant to receive it.
Most of the people in rural area believe more on traditional healer called
“DHAMI&JHANKRI” than health care provider. Diseases and illness are viewed as the cause of
evil spirit or bad deeds so people seek Dhami and Jhakri (traditional healer) to pray to bring
balance in the body. Several non traditional health care practices are still common in this culture
like if people have diarrhea fluid should be restricted so that no more loose stool will occur. This
scientific belief has been removed from public now a days slowly but even though it is deep
rooted in older uneducated people.
