from Shillong to Dhaka.
Partition of Bengal
The partition of Bengal was announced in 1903
In the 19th session of the INC held in 1903 at Madras under
the presidentship of Lalmohan Ghosh , INC warned the govt.
to give up the idea of Partition of Bengal .
, On behalf of INC , Lala Lajpat Ray and Gopal Krishna Gokhley
reached London to give up the plan of partition and
submitted a protest petition signed by the people of
Bengal to the Secretary of State .
Inspite of all this , the British Government implemented
the partition of Bengal

Secretary of State : Herbert Risley
Herbert Risley’s wrote letter to Curzon and Mentioned that “The
United Bengal is a big force, the partition will destroy this big
unity”
Causes / Intentions
To decimate the Hindu Muslim Unity
To strengthen the British Empire
To resist the growth of Indian Nationalism since Bengal was the
centre of Indian Nationalism .
On 1st Sep. declared officially that portioned would be implemented
on 16th Oct .
