PSYC 3111 SP 2023 Midterm Exam Study Guide Questions with Correct Answers .docx
1. In this course, exam questions will assess conceptual understanding and application, not rote memorization. As in, you should be able to apply course concepts to new examples that you have never seen before. 2. To study for this exam, I recommend using evidence-based learning strategies. This includes: a. Flashcards. This is a great first step for memorizing concept definitions. Be sure to focus on the ones you get wrong more than those you get right. b. Retrieval practice. This involves quizzing yourself to see what you can recall from memory about each course concept. This is a great second step for improving memory and deepening your conceptual understanding, as well as identifying gaps and areas where you should focus more attention. c. Elaboration. This involves coming up with your own examples, metaphors, and/or illustrations of concepts (whatever makes the information more meaningful to you and connects it to information already stored in your long-term memory). This is an excellent third step for deepening your conceptual understanding and improving your ability to apply course concepts to new examples (very important for our exams!). d. Interleaving. This involves studying and quizzing yourself on topics out of order. This helps you identify question types more quickly and simulates the test-taking experience. e. Spacing. This involves spacing out your studying over several days at least. This—along with the strategies described above—helps you form stronger memory traces (so that you don't forget everything right after the exam).
