Classical Theory has been influencing criminal justice practices for several decades. The
Classical Theory can be seen in use in the courts system when looking at sentencing policies.
Classical theorists believe that a criminal commits crime out of choice, meaning that anyone can
commit a crime making the “key to solving the crime problem is to have a strong system of
formal social control” (Byrne, 2016). This system within the classical theory goes to reduce
