Unit 33: The Impact of ICT on Business

Task 2: P2 P3 M1

In this task I will create a report in which I will describe how the internet and world
wide web is used or can be used by two contrasting businesses.
The two businesses that I will talk about are Amazon and Lidl. This is because
Amazon is a business that operates online, whilst Lidl operates offline and has a
website.
Selling goods and services - Amazon is a business based online. They sell
their goods on their website and mobile app. They have different categories of
products which they offer. Amazon does not have physical stores, it has
storages. Lidl does not sell their products online. The business has a website
but the only purpose it has is to inform customers of their products, their store
locations and the working times, online leaflets, newsletter, customer service
and to promote their social media. Lidl could use the internet and their website
to sell their products there, it will be very beneficial for them because
customers will find it more efficient and therefore they will be encouraged to
buy from them more. Lidl now offers home deliveries but they can also
consider collections from stores.
Lidl will increase their revenue because nowadays almost everyone uses
smartphones and customers will find it more easy to purchase goods through
their phone and have them delivered to their door. In 2019, 79% of UK adults
own a smartphone.

● Promotion - Amazon uses different types of social media in which they
promote their business and products through posts. Being in this community
allows them to reach to more people, they use different strategies such as
humorously engaging with customers.

The way Amazon uses Instagram is by interviews with artists and authors &
product promotion through video content.
Amazon’s strategy on Instagram is very similar to how it uses Facebook,
except for company news updates. However, their creative use of Instagram
stories also allows them to promote interviews with artists, authors and
influencers, with the option to swipe up to purchase their music, books or
other items on Amazon.

Lidl also uses different social media platforms to promote their business and
products. They upload regularly - at least once a week, with their weekly
promotions and any additional services that they will offer. This is beneficial
for the business because their existing customers will be able to easily find
out about offers and any news about the business. Their promotion will be
able to reach new and existing customers more easily because before the
only way to find out about promotions is through the leaflets that are offered in
their stores.
