Born in County Durham, the eldest of eleven children, Elizabeth Barrett
Browning wrote poetry from the age of eleven years of age. She is best
known for her ‘Sonnets from the Portuguese’ and ‘Aurora Leigh’ as well
as for the romantic story behind her marriage to her fellow poet Robert
Browning.
