 P6 Explain how climatic conditions at specific
destinations may affect air passengers and crew.

This is an explanation on how climatic conditions at specific
destinations may affect air passengers and crew. There are four
global regions along with their destinations such as:
 Equatorial - Brazil.
 Tropical - India, GOA.
 Temperate – Japan.
 Arctic - Greenland.

Equatorial Regions
Equatorial regions are often in lowland areas and have a climate
that is hot and wet all year round which creates a humid climate.
The annual rainfall is high as it rains almost every day and this
region is located in a band around the Equator which covers about
6% of the Earth's surface. The temperatures range is usually only a
few degrees and is constant all year round. There are tropical

rainforests that grow in
these regions such as
shown on the map
below:

Brazil is a huge country therefore one can expect it has different
climates, although it can be divided into three main climatic regions
which are equatorial, with year-round rains for example in the
Amazon Basin plus a small coastal area. Followed by tropical with a
dry season in the vast central area, plus a small northern portion
and almost Mediterranean, with temperate winters and hot
summers, in the extreme south.
The highest monthly rainfall is in March with over 300 mm and the
lowest rainfall occurs in August with under 50 mm. Temperatures
vary little throughout the year. The highest monthly temperature is
29°C which occurs in September. The lowest monthly temperature is
26°C which occurs in December and January. The annual
temperature range is 2°C. The climate graph shows average rainfall
and temperatures in Manaus, an equatorial region located in the
Amazon rainforest in Brazil.

Tropical Regions
The tropical regions or also known as the tropics are regions of the
earth that lie roughly in the middle of the globe specifically between
the latitude lines of the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn.
The tropics include the Equator and parts of North America, South
America, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Tropical countries typically have
a tropical climate, which means that it is warm all year long
averaging 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. This is because the tropics get
more exposure to
the sun and
because of all that sun,
the tropics do not

rest of the Earth does. The tropical seasons are broken up into just
two known as the wet season and the dry season. The amount of
rain can vary greatly from one area of the tropics to another like in
some areas, like parts of the Amazon Basin in South America, get
almost 3 meters of rain per year. Other areas in the tropics have a
drier climate. The Sahara Desert in northern Africa only gets 2-10
centimetres of rain per year.

In India, the state Goa, Goa's climate is tropical, hot all year round,
with a long and sunny season, which runs roughly from mid-October
to mid-May, and a rainy season due to the south-west monsoon,
more or less from late May to early or mid-October, and
characterized by stuffy weather, cloud cover and frequent rains,
which occur almost daily. The daily average is around 32°C, which is
scorching hot. The monsoon in Goa is intense since the wet currents
come directly from the sea. In July and August, the sky is often
overcast, and relative humidity is very high. From April to
December, Goa may be affected by tropical cyclones, with a higher
probability at the beginning and at the end of the period. Usually,
cyclones do not directly hit Goa; however, they can bring heavy
rains even if they pass at some distance and remain on the sea, as
happened with Cyclone Nilofar in October 2014. Within the dry
season, the best months to go to the beaches of Goa are January
and February: the weather is hot and sunny. In March, it is a little
hotter, but generally not too much. In December, the weather is like
of January and February, but in theory, a cyclone can still reach the
area. In April and November, it is the dry season, but it can get very
hot, and a cyclone can affect this area.

Temperate Regions
Temperate regions are the regions that lies between the Artic circle
and the tropic of cancer. Temperate climates are generally defined
as areas with reasonable rainfall distributed throughout the year and
by having a climate that is warm in the summer, cold in the winter
and moderate in the spring and fall. They generally have four
seasons which is spring, summer, fall and winter. There are several
climate distinctions within the temperate zone other than
subtropical, such as maritime, arid, semi-arid and continental
climates. They can grow a large variety of crops and fruit meaning
agriculture is a major income earner in these regions. Grain crops
such as wheat, barley and oats are extensively grown.
