P3 Prepare appropriate documentation for use in selection and recruitment activities
In this assignment I will do a comparison of the different documents used and its purpose in the
recruitment and selection process of Tesco. I will be looking at examples of Tesco’s job advert, job

, description and person specifications needed for recruitment and selection. I will be also preparing
my own appropriate documentation which will be used in the selection and recruitment process. I
will be doing a comparison of the purpose of the different documentations which will be required in
the recruitment and selection process. I will be focusing on applying for a certain job role which
would be a role of a store manager. These are the examples I found online through Tesco’s own
careers website.

Recruitment is the process of finding the correct individual for a particular job in a company 1. Where
else, the selection is a process of picking the right candidate with specific qualifications and
capabilities to fill the jobs role in the organization. The selection process is quite lengthy and
complex as it involves a series of steps before making the final selection 2. This includes announcing
the job, reviewing applications, screening candidates, interviewing, and final selection, testing, and
making an offer3.

Job advertisement
Job advertisement is an announcement that informs people that a certain job position is available. It
is written in an engaging tone and it contains information about the job position, pay, location, job
duties, qualifications required as well as the benefits Tesco’s offers their employees 4. The aim of the
job advert is to attract interest, communicate quickly and clearly the essential points, and to provide
a clear response process and mechanism5. The main purpose of a job advertisement is to attract the
right candidate for an open position that will allow Tesco to attract many suitable candidates
allowing them to have a higher volume of candidates to select from. This would benefit them as they
would have a higher variety of skills and knowledge to select from therefore enabling them to select
the best candidate for a particular job. Tesco would be able to link their job description and person
specification in order to identify the most suitable candidate. Recruiting the best candidates would
allow Tesco to increase their productivity and enable them to meet their goals and targets. The job
description will also include the benefits the candidate will receive if they are successfully offered
the position. According to the Zety 2021 HR statistics in 2015, 51% of those who did have jobs were
searching for new ones or watching for openings 6 therefore uploading job adverts would attract
potential applicants either employed or unemployed who are looking for a new job. 79% of job
seekers say they are likely to use social media in their job search 7 therefore uploading job advert
online would allow the business to reach a higher audience. Tesco’s job adverts would be posted on
Tesco careers, recruitment agencies, job centres, social media and billboards in order to attract
potential candidates. Tesco is posting on social media if they are targeting young people for the job
role. For more experience they will be using the recruitment agencies to shorten the process.
Posting on careers websites is to target all candidates in all age ranges who are looking for a part
time or full time job.
