Unit 21 – P5 M3 D3
P5 Plan an appropriate induction programme for a group of new starters in a selected business using
own research

M3 Assess the factors likely to make induction successful for new starters in the selected business

D3 – Evaluate the likely impact of the induction programme on the business and the individuals

Introduction

In this assignment, I am going to plan an appropriate induction programme and associated documents
for a group of new starters in Vodafone using my own research.

An induction is the process where employees are brought in to get used to their new working
environment and job. During this process, employees will be integrated effectively into the business for
the benefit of both the business and the employee undergoing the induction. Induction training will
both introduce and welcome new employees to the business and is a good way for them to learn more
about the organization and the jobs that they will be doing and how to do them; the induction prepares
them for work for the business in the future. This benefits the business because they will be eventually
receiving a worker who has knowledge and skills needed to work in the business – benefiting them in
the long run as they would be able to generate more revenue the more work that gets done and work
would get done at a higher rate if the employees are more skilled and have more knowledge on the
business’ aims and objectives. The purpose of induction training for the business is that it allows them to
get across to the new employee and they would inform them on the aims and objectives, mission and
vision of the business in hopes that they will stay there and work effectively.

Induction training for employees will include introduction to key personnel (colleagues, main business
contacts, manager etc.) which will allow the employee to know more about who to go to for any
questions, who they work for and who they will be working with. The next part of the induction will
include housekeeping; employees will be introduced to their work area e.g., their desk, storage or
locker, car parking, toilets, staff room and canteen – they will often be given a tour, so they know their
way around the business when they come to work there. Furthermore, day to day routines would be the
next part of induction training which will include their start and finish times, breaks, meetings, bulletins,
notice boards and the dress code. In doing this, the employee will be more prepared when they come to
work as they will be able to minimize questions asked – it is beneficial if they ask all the questions
needed during the induction training.

Induction training for the business will include IT, health and safety and the paperwork. The business will
give the employee their username and password, email address and access to the internet so they know
how to log in to any staff websites or computers and where they can receive any work emails. The
health and safety aspect of the induction training would include them being trained on how to use
equipment, fire and other emergency procedures and details on first aid which includes the accident
book - an essential document for employers and employees who are required by law to report details of
