P2- Explain the process of distributing goods through different
channels from the manufacturer to the customer.
M2- compare the methods used to distribute products and
services.

In this assignment I am going to explain the process of
distributing goods through different channels from the
manufacturer to the customer and then I will compare the
methods used to distribute products and services. The examples I
am going to use are the pub Merrimans and the supermarket
Tesco. The reason I have chosen to use these two is because they
are completely different business, Merrimans is a small local pub
that provides a service to customers by serving them food and
drink. Whereas Tesco is a massive international retailer that has
millions of customers each week.

In this part of the assignment I am going to be talking about
distribution, distribution channels and the supply chain. So firstly I
will start of by defining each one of these; distribution is
concerned with getting a product or service to the right people at
the right time, taking into consideration the need for profit and
efficiency. Distribution channels are the ways of purchasing.
Supply chain is the processes involved in the production and
distribution of products.
It is very important to retailers that they have the right product in
the right place at the right time. This is important because
everything has to be ready and distributed at the right time. For
example at Christmas time with restaurants such as Merrimans
they will order Christmas puddings and turkeys in at that time of
the year, to provide to their customers. But they are not going to
order or purchase Christmas pudding in the middle of July
because they will out make any profit out of it, so they have to
make sure they order stuff at the right time. Right place is also
very important because retailers need to make sure they order
