AC 3.3 - Justify your campaign for change.
The unreported topic i have chosen to do for my campaign is domestic violence as i
believe this type of crime has affected too many people's lives and will continue to do so
unless a change is made. Domestic violence happens to 1 in 4 women in England each
year, and the most recent report published in December 2018, shows that only 46% of
cases of domestic violence were reported to the police. Less than half these cases get
any notice, which means no justice is served, and the perpetrators are still out there! It's
an ongoing cycle that needs to be put to an end, domestic violence is serious, and it can
be life threatening. The worst part about it all, is domestic violence has no boundaries, it
affects people of all genders, races, ages, religions and so forth, it is a universal
problem. The victims that have been through this, or are going through this right now,
are living in fear. Scared of any repercussions, either to them, or someone in their
family, perhaps even their children. The longer domestic abuse goes on without an
intervening force, the worse it becomes, and the effects become greater.
I'm going to be using statistics from all over the world to show how much domestic
violence affects people's lives. The statistics I am planning on using are absolutely jaw
dropping and I hope that when people see them they will become more aware, and they
too, will also agree a change needs to be introduced. I want to show the statistics of the
number of children this happens too, because I think knowing that so many children
have to experience this is devastating and heartbreaking. I hope that this will encourage
any past victims or current victims to consider reporting, if not for themselves then for
me, and all the other innocent children. At the moment, out of every 1,000 sexual
assaults, 995 perpetrators will walk free. That's 995 dangerous people living their life
with as much freedom as the rest of us. These people are a threat to our society, and
will continue to act the way they do unless they are stopped. I hope that by giving some
statistics on the number of children who have been victims of domestic violence, people
will be more prone to report these crimes either done against them, or someone they
may know. To guarantee the safety of these children and young females, knowing that
they have locked them away for the best. I say this because a lot of domestic violence
cases are between a married couple or those in a relationship, so the violence is
perpetrated by someone you love and care for, which can make it hard and challenging
to accept, let alone report it.
Without this campaign it is likely that the number of victims each year will increase,
along with the number of perpetrators that will walk free. My campaign aims to bring a
change to this for the better. The name of my campaign “you&me”, is titled this as I
know how difficult it can be to report a crime, especially one like this. You have built a
bond with this person, planning to spend the rest of your life with them, you may even
have children together. Then weeks, months, even years down the line their behaviour
