Who initially handles charges of misconduct? - AICP Ethics Officer Can an AICP member be represented by legal counsel in ethics proceedings? - Yes How long does a respondent have to respond to a charge of misconduct? - 30 days after notification by the Ethics Officer, with a potential 15 day extension. Who can dismiss charges without merit? - AICP Ethics Officer Who is the hearing and appeal body for AICP ethics investigations? - AICP Ethics Committee What types of crimes result in automatic suspension? - Trust crimes: Fraud, perjury, tax evasion, bribery, extortion, theft Are automatic suspensions made at the time of indictment or conviction of a serious crime? - Conviction How does the Ethics Officer become aware of a serious crime being committed? - The planner is required to report convictions. How long do automatic suspensions last? - At least one year, or the date of release from incarceration. Who approves reinstatement after automatic suspension for a serious crime? - Ethics Committee How long must a planner wait before advocating a position on an issue that is adverse to a prior position? - 3 years (unless determined after consultation with qualified professionals that the change of position won't harm the prior client and the conflict is made clear in writing to the current client, who must also give written permission).
