Introduction
In this section of the essay the writer will use further measurement methods on
different products to establish what is known as surface texture, alignment and also
angular dimensions.

Surface texture of component B
Surface finish or surface texture is basically the nature of the surface, there are three
different surface texture characteristics and they are the following: roughness,
waviness and lay. There are numerous types of surface texture, vertical, horizontal,
radial, cross-hatched, circular and isotropic.

What equipment is used to measure the surface texture of any engineering
products? Advantages/Disadvantages (surface texture of component B)

, Profilometer is equipment that measures the profile of a particular surface in order to
know its roughness, waviness and other properties. The advantage of using a
profilometer for the surface texture is that it can measure very small surface
variations. The disadvantage of using profilometer for the surface texture is that it is

not precise when the size of the topographies of the surface is close to the similar
size as the stylus. They contain two parts and they are the following: detector and
sample stage. Additionally, the detector is what decides where the points on the
tester are; sample step is what holds the tester.

The process of using profilometer
Moreover, there are two kinds of profilometers and they are the following: optical and
stylus. The stylus profilometer uses the so-called probe to sense the surface,
physically by sliding the probe alongside the surface to obtain the surface peak. In
addition, this is done automatically, a loop that screens the force from the tester
pushing upwards in the y-axis towards the probe whilst monitoring alongside the
surface. Next, what is known as feedback method is used to have the arm with a
particular quantity of torque on it, which is simply known as set-point. The
alternations made in the Z spot of the arm holder can be used to rebuild the surface.
