Script for Understanding Storytelling, Traditional Stories and their qualities
Hello everyone, my name is Alex and today, I will be talking to you about Storytelling and
traditional stories.
Chapter 1 - INTRODUCTION
So, what is storytelling, Storytelling is pretty much telling a tale that contains themes and
characters that are engaging within a narrative that has been created by an author or
creative thinker that can be told to groups of people or just one person.
Its origins can date back to many, many decades ago in which members of tribes can create
characters and stories using their imagination that can be told to different tribes and groups
using different storytelling methods, such as:

 Characters-Rogue One’s characters (Jyn Erso, Director Orson Krennic)
 Plot-Rogue One’s plot (Stealing the Death Star Plans)
 Themes-Rogue One’s Themes (Hope, Rebellion, Dictatorship)
 Settings-Rogue One’s Settings (Scarif, Jedha ,Yavin 4)
 Structure-Rogue One’s Structure (Beginning details main character, she has her
hatred fuelled by the empire and defeats them in the end)
 Style-Rogue One’s style (A war story about loss and redemption)
Chapter 2 - TRADITIONAL STORYTELLING
Some of these methods are used in traditional storytelling and they have been used in
many different media, such as

 Film –“The Dark Knight” and “Mad Max Fury Road”
 Books – “Harry Potter” and “The Hunger Games”
 Comic Books – “The Killing Joke” and “Civil War”
 Video Games – “BioShock Infinite” and “Uncharted”
 Television – “Sherlock” and “The Walking Dead”
 Theatre – “Miss Julie” and “The Seagull”
All these examples use a wide arrange of traditional storytelling features, but today, I will
talk about three prime examples and explore them in detail.
Chapter 3 - Example One- “Jack and the Beanstalk”
• AUTHOR-Published in 1807 by Benjamin Tabart
• STRUCTURE- Introduction details the characters and the main plot element (The
magic beans), continues when the beanstalk grows and leads to the giants land,
which follows to the climax.
• SETTINGS- A small house with a mother and a boy who can afford much, a giants
castle in which it is big to the hero.
• STYLE- Kid friendly for the young ones to understand the story.
• AUDIENCE- The Younger generation who are still learning about morals.
