Teaching IELTS Assignment

Analyse the information in the class summary. What are your learners’ strengths and weaknesses?
(max. 100 words)

The class is doing well with reading. The average band for reading is 6.60, while many students have a band 7 grade. The
writing band is 5.8, however listening and speaking skills are lower, both averaging 5.75.

Which two skills have you chosen to teach in this lesson? Why? (minimum 150 words)

I have chosen to teach the listening and speaking skill in this lesson. Both of these skills are averaging the lowest, being
5.75. It is crucial to work on the weakest skills, because the final IELTS grade is weighted on all the four skills. Both of the
students (Delphine and Francesca) that want to improve their job prospects, are averaging the lowest for these two skills.
That is another reason why I have decided to focus on these two skills, since it's crucial for interviews, communication and
being able to express themselves. In an IELTS lesson, it is unusual to take 60 minutes teaching only the speaking skill,
unless we are very close to the test day and students only want to practice speaking. That is also a reason why I paired it
with a listening skill. The communication between students will help to energize students between more challenging task.

Which lesson topic have you chosen? Why? (minimum 100 words)

, Teaching IELTS Assignment

I have chosen the work topic, rather than health and fitness, education or the environment. I think it is relevant to most of
the students' reasons for taking the IELTS exam. Delphine's and Francesca's reason for taking the IELTS exam is to
improve their job prospect. Ana wants to become a nurse in the UK, so she will find the work topic very useful too. Bilal
wants to study in America and Mihai wants to do a postgrad degree in the UK, therefore they both might work eventually.
Chen's reason for moving to Australia is unclear, but there is a possibility he might be working there, so he would find this
topic useful too.
