Development 1: Legislation

The Disability discrimination act in 2004 increased accessibility for disabled
customers which has also increased competition for companies within the travel
and tourism industry, this is because airlines, train services and hotels which
have facilities for the disabled will have an increased number in customers rather
than the companies who don’t have disabled access as the disabled won’t be
able to use these services.

Development 2: Legislation

The package travel regulations act in 1992 gave tour operators stricter fnancial
controls and responsibilities to customers which increased consumer demand
because customers wanted diferent types of packages to suit all of their
individual wants and needs, e.g. short break packages and 18s-30s packages
which would include activities suitable for that age range such as boat parties.

Development 3: Product development

Over time products have massively developed, you are now able to purchase all
inclusive packages which include fights, accommodation, found, drink and
entertainment which you were never able to do before, instead you would have
to purchase all these yourself or go for other options such as half and full board.
This has increased competition within the travel and tourism industry because
companies are competing to sell the best packages which also have good value
for money.

Development 4: Destination development

Destinations have developed and become more popular to people who wouldn’t
be able to visit them before such as Disney Land which only the wealthy were
able to visit as it was expensive but due to jobs increasing and having a better
pay rate more and more people are able to visit Disney land than ever before.
This contributes to the country’s GDP as more people are visiting which also
means more people are spending money there for Disney land itself but also
