Nevada C3 Latest Update Graded A+
Nevada C3 Latest Update Graded A+ Termites as a group are the major wood destroying pest, more time money and effort are spent on prevention and control than all other wood destroying pests combined. Subterranean Termite Arid land and Western Sub are so similar they're indistinguishable.3 CASTES per colony: Reproductives, Soldiers and Workers/Nymphs. The Reproductives are categorized by Primary and Supplementary. Primary reproductive is a winged adult called an "Alate" The QUEEN IS A PRIMARY REPRODUCTIVE who lost her wings with a large abdomen. The King has the same characteristics except it doesn't have a large abdomen. The Worker and Soldier are blind. Subterranean Termite Life cycle Primarily seen in Spring and Fall. The Primary Reproductives emerge from holes in the soil and the Alates have a short flight then lose their wings. After wing loss males and females pair and establish a new colony. Colony growth is slow. THE FIFTH INSTAR IS THE LONGEST, IT CAN LAST UP TO 2 YEARS. It can take 3-4 years before swarms of Alates are present and is aided by Supplementary reproductives which lay eggs and add to colony growth. A Colony can range from each ruled by a Queen and King. The Queen lives longer than the a worker which lives 3-5 years. Subterranean Termite Habitat Lives in chambers and tunnels in the soil. Soil acts as a barrier against surface temperatures as well as a moisture reservoir. IN RARE INSTANCES THEY'LL LIVE WITHOUT SOIL if food, water and temperature are right. The depth of may vary in response to soil temp and moisture. Shelter tubes Aka mud tubes. Fills the gap between soil and the structure made from sand and soil, or particles of wood or both. Particles are coated with a glue like substance that is secreted. Fecal matter is used as cement. THE MINOR FUNCTION IS TO PROTECT AGAINST AIR MOVEMENT AND THE MAJOR FUNCTION IS TO PROTECT AGAINST NATURAL ENEMIES, primarily ants. Not built for light protection as Termite will perform normally if protected from light. Types of shelter tubes Utility or working tubes, Exploratory Tubes or Migratory Tubes,Suspension or drop Tubes, Swarming tubes Utility or working tubes Reach from the ground to the wood where they're feeding. Wide and flattened, used by termites to return to their nest to replenish body moisture. Exploratory Tubes or Migratory Tubes Not as strong as utility tubes but similar also has a small exit hole. Used when seeking new food source. Suspension or drop tubes Built from structural wooden member downward to the soil. Lighter in color than any other shelter tube because they contain more wood fiber. Type of utility tube. Swarming tube Built at swarming time to provide exit for Alates. May exist 4-8'' above ground. In homes they're near warm places Subterranean Termite Food Two types of feeding habits. consumption of SOUND OR DECAYING WOOD or cellulose materials(cardboard, paper, books) This is a feeding nature of workers and older nymphs. They consume the wood but don't digest it. In their enlarged colon is a protozoa that digests the wood for the older workers and nymphs. The other is a diet made by the colony(transfer of salivary secretions, regurgitated contents and drops from one termite to the other called Trophallaxis)
