ANI - ANSWER-Automatic Number Identification
Call Routing - ANSWER-The operational methods used to route call information through
and between agencies. They are direct dispatch, call transfer, call relay, and call
referral.
Direct Dispatch - ANSWER-Call is directly dispatched by the PSAP, not rerouted
through another agency.
Call Transfer - ANSWER-Transferring the call to another agency in the location,
precinct, or needs of the caller
Call Relay - ANSWER-Relaying the details of the call and it's information to another
PSAP
Call Referall - ANSWER-Giving caller information that they would need to call to get
their needs met.
E9-1-1 - ANSWER-Enhanced 9-1-1. Basically pops up caller id and location.
Basic 9-1-1 - ANSWER-This 9-1-1 only routes the caller to the nearest PSAP in their
juristiction
ESN - ANSWER-Emergency Service Number. Geographic demarcation that identifies
an agencies area of responsibility.
PBX - ANSWER-Private Branch Exchange. A switch that controls a privately owned
group of telephone lines.
Selective Routing - ANSWER-The routing of a 9-1-1 call to the proper PSAP based on
the location of the caller. Selective routing is controlled by the ESN which is derived by
the caller's location.
P-ANI - ANSWER-Pseudo-ANI . A number used by the wireless carrier to route the call
and identify the cell site (and sector, if it's a sectored site) from which a wireless call
originates.
, PDA - ANSWER-Personal Digital Assistants. Handheld wireless communication
devices.
VoIP - ANSWER-Voice over Internet Protocol. Lets you make telephone calls over the
internet.
WLNP - ANSWER-Wireless Local Number Portability. A process that allows wireless
subscribers to change service providers within a designated area while retaining the
same phone number.
Wireless E9-1-1 Phase 1 - ANSWER-The delivery of the wireless 9-1-1 call to the
appropriate PSAP along with the call-back number and the cell site(and sector, if the
site is sectored) from which the call originated.
Wireless E9-1-1 Phase 2 - ANSWER-The delivery of the wireless 9-1-1 call to the
appropriate PSAP along with the call-back number, cell site (and sector, if the site is
sectored) and an estimate of the callers longitude and latitude.
MSAG - ANSWER-Master Street Address Guide. Essentially a "routing table" that
identifies all street names, a range of theoretically possible house numbers for each
street, and which unique sets of fire, police, and ems services are responsible for that
location.
Acoustic Coupler - ANSWER-The rubber cups that hold the telephone headset on the
TTY
ASL - ANSWER-American Sign Language
ASL Gloss - ANSWER-Sign Language communicated on the TTY with many aspects of
ASL syntax intact-does not necessarily match English grammar as person may not be
fluent in "English", which is their second language.
ASCII - ANSWER-American Standard Code for Information Exchange. Standard Code
for a character set to be used for info exchange and data communications over phone
line. In TTY, refers to a binary code and a modulation method used for TTY
communications.
Baudot Code - ANSWER-Five bit encoding scheme that represents text and digits.
Baudot is the standard signaling scheme used by TTY devices.
Communications Impaired - ANSWER-A person who is deaf, hearing impaired or
speech impaired
Direct Connect - ANSWER-Method of connecting TTY directly into the telephone line
