M2 - Analyse the marketing opportunities and challenges faced by businesses when using
Internet marketing.
Despite the fact that Internet Marketing offers good benefits to businesses like Amazon, there are
also some challenges that are Amazon will face when using Internet Marketing. In this task, I am
going to outline the challenges that Amazon will be facing when using Internet Marketing and
explain the opportunities that Amazon have to resolve their problems, using their opportunities to
improve their marketing.
One key problem that Amazon will face when using Internet Marketing is that with some orders,
they will end up having problems with their deliveries and distribution of their products. For
instance, a customer of Amazon could choose to receive their product within the next day but the
product that the customer ordered did not arrive the next day, but at a later date. This could be a
problem that Amazon will face because if the product that their customer ordered didn’t arrive at
the designated date that the customer wanted it for, then that customer would lose trust in Amazon
and not recommend other customers to purchase products from Amazon. As a result of this,
Amazon will lose their reputation, leading to decreasing their profits and market share. However,
Amazon would have the opportunity to prevent delivery problems from happening when using
Internet Marketing. This is because Amazon has a unique feature where the customer’s ordered
product is tracked and is always updating the customer the location of their package and what time
their package arrived to that location, which is beneficial to Amazon because it helps to retain their
loyalty to their customers and the customers are always informed about where their package is until
it is delivered to their household.
Another key problem that Amazon will face when using Internet Marketing is that some of their
customers could lack confidence in the security of Amazon’s websites and the lack of confidence in
the security of making transactions when purchasing a product from Amazon’s website. This could
be a problem to Amazon because if there wasn’t any security to protect the customer when making
payments, then customers would be disinterested as they might feel that if they purchase a product
from Amazon’s website they will be deceived, therefore their product might not even deliver to their
house or Amazon could take out more money from the customer’s bank account than the price for
the product. As a result of this, Amazon would lose their reputation, leading to decreasing their
profits and market share. However, Amazon would have the opportunity to stop this problem from
happening when using Internet Marketing. This is because when customers use their credit/debit
card or PayPal to purchase their products, Amazon ensure that they confirm the customer’s
payment by trying to confirm their payment type through the bank that the customer has used their
credit/debit card from, meaning that Amazon provide a good security in terms of payments so their
customers wouldn’t be feel deceived by Amazon.
Furthermore, a problem that Amazon would possibly face is the linguistic and cultural sensitivity
when selling their products abroad. For example, when selling abroad Amazon need to ensure that
their website can be viewed in different languages in different countries such as the French language
being shown in France, German language shown in Germany etc. This could be a problem to Amazon
if they had no linguistic and cultural sensitivity on their website because customers from other
countries are most unlikely to understand another language as people from other foreign countries
are not going to be able to understand English. However, Amazon can prevent this problem from
occurring when using Internet Marketing. This is because “Amazon operates 11 online marketplaces
