1. Are there differences in personalities between cultures?
2. How does culture context affect our personality?

Case 1:

3 Three Processes By Which Personality Affects Social Interaction:

- Situation Selection → The choice people make to either enter some situations and
avoid other situations. Social Selections are decision points that direct people to
choose one path and avoid another. These decisions, which determine the nature of
people’s social environments and social worlds, are often based on the personality
characteristics of the selector.

- Evocation → The ways in which features of personality elicit reactions from others.
Once we select others to occupy our social environment (selection procedure), the
evocation of reactions from others is set into motion. Then one’s personality can
actually create the social environment to which one is exposed through the process
of evocation.

- Manipulation → Includes all the ways in which people intentionally try to change the
behaviour of others. Research shows that women generally tend to use more
manipulation tactics than men.

Situation Selection

Partner Selection:
- Partner Preference → The list of traits we want the potential mate to exhibit.
- Partner Selection → Mate selection is limited by the potential mates that are
available to you.
