HIST 410N Week 2 Case Study 2: Versailles: The Allies‘ Last Horrible Triumph’This week, you will read the comments of the German Delegation to the Paris Peace Conference on the conditions of the peace, which ended World War 1. Please click on the link below to view the article. Many have argued that it was the way World War 1 ended which made World War 2 inevitable. Read the document and answer the following questions: 1. According to the authors of Germany's complaint, how will various provisions of the treaty hurt Germany's economy? They had to pay the Allied nations too much money to survive after the war. 2. In Germany's view, how would the country have been treated differently if the principles they attribute to President Wilson had been applied? Wilson wanted every country involved to accept equal blame. If this had happened their might have been more peace. This might have saved their economy 3. To what higher "fundamental laws" does the document appeal to in order to strengthen German assertions? The “fundamental law” is “the right of self-determination. To make it possible for all nations to put this privilege into practice was intended.” 4. Do you agree with the authors of the document that Germany was being poorly treated? What response to their complaints might defenders of the treaty have made? I do not think there argument is enough to prove the point or not to have to pay for this war. I understand that the terms were not laid out. However, there is no way to know the true ramification of the cost involved until after the fall out. They might not like the control of waterways in the hands of international bodies but they had be mismanaging them up to this point and could not be trusted. The canals and railroad they were being asked to build in German territories were also at the discretion of the foreign authorizes for this same reason.
