Heart failure occurs when cardiac output is insufficient to provide adequate blood flow to meet metabolic and circulatory demands (Houston ., 2015). As tissue perfusion remains adequate from cardiac output, salt and water retention increases which causes dyspnea and swelling (Houston ., 2015). Fluid and salt restriction along with loop diuretics are useful in patients with congestive heart failure that cause diuresis and help to support cardiac medications for therapeutic results (Houston ., 2015)
