Case Study #3 - Jeff Client Concerns Jeff is a 33-year-old Caucasian male, divorced from his only marriage and currently estranged from his two young children. Jeff works for the State building and maintaining infrastructure and has held that position for the past 5 years. Jeff spends approximately half of each month away from his residence for work purposes, working 10-12 days in the field, and residing in a work-provided hotel room. Jeff presents today at the behest of his employer. Jeff admits to alcohol use that would be consistent with an Alcohol Use Disorder diagnosis and is reporting some negative impacts on his employment because of that condition. His employer is mandating he seek treatment or risk losing his employment. Jeff also attributes his excessive use of alcohol as the main cause of his divorce. There are reports of domestic violence, while under the influence of alcohol, as well as alcohol-related traffic arrests. During the initial interview, Jeff also reported a significant history of depressive symptoms as well as suicidal ideations with the development of a plan (but no action taken yet). Jeff also reported significant family history of depression and alcohol use disorder. Jeff is willing to seek treatment, if only for the sake of his continued employment, and possibly facilitating reunification with his children. Depression symptoms are reported to have not been present for at least 3 months, indicating full remission.
