four levels of supervision for the OTA - Close supervision - Routine supervision - General supervision - Minimum supervision specific OT roles & responsibilities - interprets referral - responsible for all aspects of initial - accountable for safety/effectivenes of tx/service delivery - defines areas of disability to be evaluated, determines need for service, defines probs to be addressed, determines goals/priorities, establishes interventions, determines assessment tasks to implemented to COTA, interprets data from eval - overall responsible for development/delegation of intervention - determines need for service (e.g., makes recommendation to IEP team) - determines need for continuing, modifying, or discontinuing OT services (OTR makes adjustment if modification to tx must be made) - responsible for supervising COTA, OT aide, and OT FW students specific roles of OTA - help gather data, administer parts of screening/eval, report observations - deliver OT services under OT supervision - collab with OTR to come up with intervention plan - selects, implements, and makes mods to therapeutic activities/interventions consistent with client's physical & cognitive levels, goals, requirements of practice setting example: if working on muscle strengthening, can the COTA decide to use therapeutic bands and dumbbells? yes. they can select, implement, and modify therapeutic activities/interventions as long as they're part of OT intervention plan (which OTA can give input on). example of how OT would demo responsibility for development/delegation of intervention OT tracks progress & reads COTA notes to ensure appropriate tx has been implemented An OTA can contribute to the evaluation process, but they cannot independently evaluate or initiate treatment prior to the OT evaluation. An OTA can contribute to the development and implementation of the intervention plan. plus, he/she may be monitoring and documenting of the individual's response to intervention under the OT supervision.
