“The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is the world’s largest
credentialing organization that seeks to ensure high quality patient care in medical imaging,
interventional procedures, and radiation therapy” (The American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists, 2016). The ARRT certifies and registers technologists through the administration
of education, ethics and examination requirements. The ARRT is an agency that maintains
partnerships with other government regulating agencies to help improve standards of radiologic
health care within the United States (The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, 2016).
In the following paragraphs we will address the structure of the ARRT and the effect this
organization has on health care. We will evaluate how they carrying out specific duties and what
authority the ARRT has. Lastly, we will explain how agencies deal with the elements of
negligence and intentional torts that affect quality management.
ARRT Structure
The ARRT is made up of a ten-member Board of Trustees, who establish ARRT policies
and procedures. According to The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (2016), “Six
Trustees shall be technologists certified and registered within the Corporation, four Trustees shall
be physicians duly licensed according to law to practice medicine” (By-Laws).
As part of the Operational Structure of the ARRT, the Board has an executive director
that manages the all the organizational operations. They are responsible for hiring and managing
the appropriate staff to conduct all the business of the ARRT. There are two divisions of
employees: Credentialing operations and Business operations. Credentialing includes the
following departments: continuing registration, psychometrics, initial certification, ethics
requirements, government affairs and records. Business operations handles the following
