Good Afternoon Professor Hensley and Classmates,
While working in the ED (Emotionally Disabled) classroom that I work in, last school year our
students had laptops. We used learning platforms such as freckle, prodigy, and splash math. Our
school had certain websites blocked, however some students knew how to pass certain things to
still access those websites. As an instructional aide I would walk around the classroom and look
at what they were doing to make sure they were staying on task. I know that it is not always
possible to see what every student is doing at all times. I feel that walking around the classroom
and checking on a student once in a while will keep the rest on task. They may feel like they
have to just in case you decide to stop at their desk.

In our district, students have access to both laptops and I-pads that are checked out to them
through the IT department. As an educator it can be difficult to ensure that students are staying
on task and being appropriate throughout the school year. Our district monitors devices through
the county and blocks necessary sites for students, but there will always be some sites that will
slip through the cracks. It’s important for an educator to ensure that their classroom design is set
up so that they can supervise students accordingly. We have a program called LanSchool
installed on all Teacher devices that allow us to look and see what our students are doing in
class. We can block sites, limit internet, send messages, and control their screens when
necessary. When we use our I-pads, there’s a limited category store that students can get on to
download which blocks unnecessary apps. Each I-pad is also equipped with Guided Access
which allows teachers to enter their own code, and the I-pad will stay on that particular app until
