Government. The Uk on the other hand has got a unitary system, which means that the Uks
parliamentary sovereignty lies in parliament. It can also be said that in both congress and
parliament main bits of legislation is being passed due to the power given to Westminster
and Congress
Secondly it can be argued that devolution and the federal system increases representation
amongst the people in the Uk and the US. In the Uk power is given due to devolution to
ensure that the ‘regions’, such as Scotland and Northern Ireland are better represented. In
America part of the power is given to the states in order to limit the Governments power as
the founding fathers didn’t want one body to become to powerful. Furthermore, the power
was handed to the states in order to be able to ratify any constitutional amendments. The
Power available to the states also increase representation significantly, as they have the
ability to cope with regional issues and allow legislation, they think is beneficial for their
states.

the regions and the states its own identity. If you look at the Uk you can clearly see that

power it is able to be seen and recognised in the world for the things it has done, such as

Government, but a greater amount if power allows them to give them their own identity, as
there are able to make their own rules and become in a way independent from the central
