INTERNATIONAL MIGRATIONMigration:
The movement of people from one place to another. People can move long or short distances
and might move for a short period of time or might spend the rest of their lives in a new place.
International Migration:
The movement of people across international boundaries, it has enormous implications for
growth and poverty alleviation in both origin and destination countries. People who leave their
country are said to emigrate. People who move into another country are called immigrants.
The movement of people into a country is known as immigration.
-Migration impacts on both the place left behind, and on the place where migrants settle.
-People have many reasons why they might want to move from one place to another. These
reasons may be economic, social, political or environmental.For migration to take place there
are usually push factors and pull factors at work.
Push factors:reasons that make someone decide to move. This is their own experience of life
in one place which gives them good reasons to leave it.
Pull factors:expectations which attract people to the new place.
Many people choose to migrate. These are voluntary migrants. Many are economic migrants.
Ex. Mexicans to the USA. Other voluntary migrants include older dependants who want to live
somewhere warm and sunny in their retirement. However many other people have no choice
and are forced to leave their homes. These are involuntary migrants. Their lives and homes may
be in danger due to war or a natural disaster. These people are also called refugees. Ex.
Syrians moving to Turkey.
