INTRODUCTION
For a small software company, I work as a junior developer. I've been asked
to give a presentation as a guest speaker at my company. To build a
knowledge base and be ready for the visit, my supervisor has given you a
portfolio of computer programs and requested me to explain the concepts
used in them.

COMPUTATIONAL THINKING SKILLS
These are a set of ways to solve problems. Programming relies only on
computer thinking which means being able to think like how a computer
would make the problem solvable for the computer. Computer systems are
no longer able to get everything when we try to solve problems. These types
of skills help investigate the problem, examine it carefully and help find
workable solutions that will help to develop into good software applications.
Computational thinking skills has four main steps which are:

 Decomposition
 Pattern recognition
 Pattern generalization and abstraction
 Representation of problems elements

DECOMPOSITION
This is the process of breaking down hard ideas into smaller parts that are
manageable. This technique is likewise known “FACTORING”. These are
problems that have not decomposed that tend to be exceedingly difficult to
solve. It is the process of breaking a much bigger problem into bits of smaller
problems to improve the possibility of being successful. This is because it
allows you to concentrate on one thing at a time allowing details to be
analyzed more closely.

We use decomposition in our everyday life without even knowing. E.g., The
process of washing plates involve:

1. Removing the remnants from the plate and putting them in the food
bin.
2. Adding soap into the sponge and letting it foam
3. Start washing the plate
4. Rinsing the plate
5. Drying the plate with a dry towel
6. Arranging the plate on the rack ready to use.

This way a problem (washing plates) can be decomposed into at least 6 sub
tasks, each of which could be further broken down, if needed until the steps
needed are easy to understand. If a step is missed the result may be a mess.
But in decomposition it requires only four stages.

IDENTIFYING AND DESCRIBING PROBLEMS AND PROCESSES
In this category, you need to keep breaking down problems into
smaller bits, the only difference is that you need to use a language that goes
with source of the problem. For example, if you are dealing with a physical
problem, you must use terms from the physical sector. It can be split into
two parts:

1. Specifications: This means how the program will work and the type of
structure of the program. E.g., arithmetic problems and the response
of the user if they put wrong inputs.
2. Requirements: this process deals with the program and how it's able to
perform its duties.

BREAKING DOWN PROBLEMS INTO DISTINCT STEPS
This process enables you to decompose tricky problems and process
them into different steps which must be together to be reassembled
correctly. There is no exact limit when it comes to the number of steps
needed to take to decompose. Being able to organize and multitask on
several problems is called “PARALYSATION”. When you are preparing food,
you wash the vegetables, boil the rice on the stove in a pot at the end of the
day it ends up as a single dish as the result.

DESCRIBING PROBLEMS AND PROCESSES AS A SET OF
STRUCTURED STEPS
At this step, you must note the problems and processes that have
been decomposed. It should be uncomplicated so it can be easily understood
