Preparation and Triage - answer1) Activate trauma or resuscitation team if needed
2) Prepare room: pediatric equipment, scale/length based resuscitation tape, Peds drug
binders, warmer
3) PPE (especially if fever)
"The patient has just arrived" - answer1) Uncontrolled hemorrhage?
2) Appearance
3) WOB
4) Circulation to the skin
(0 = sick, 1 = sicker, 2-3 = sickest)
A - answerAirway and Alertness
***1) AVPU (Alert, Verbal, Pain, Unconscious)*
2) Head tilt/chin lift or ask to open mouth
(if trauma, need 2nd person and jaw thrust)
***3) Look for... tongue, foreign object, blood/vomit/secretions, edema,
(snoring/gurgling/stridor, teeth, bony deformity)*
(babies are nasal breathers so check nasal airway)
4) Suction, towel under shoulders, position, oral/nasal airway, intubation?
*REASSESS*

***1) Spontaneous breathing/chest rise, depth/pattern/rate, WOB, skin color (breath
sounds present/equal, tracheal deviation, subcut. emphysema)*
