‭Rise and consolidation of the Nazi party‬

‭How Hitler gained control of the Nazi Party:‬

‭ itler joined the party in 1919, working as a government informant however he quickly relished‬

‭in the party’s ideas and became an avid supporter, giving speeches. The 1919 leader Drexler‬
‭invited Hitler to become head of propaganda.‬

‭ s part of his role, Hitler wrote out the 25 point programme which played a huge role in‬

‭establishing and propagating the party’s beliefs. Additionally, Hitler renamed the DAP to the‬
‭Nazis and adopted a new, striking symbol.‬

‭and after much support, he replaced Drexler in 1921 as party leader. In his tenure, he set up the‬
‭SA who were to guard the party's meeting and disrupt their opponents.‬

‭Munich Putsch‬

‭1.‬ H ‭ itler believed that because of the Ruhr crisis, the economy was on the verge of collapse‬
‭and so he tried to seize power.‬
‭2.‬ ‭Hitler gathered up his SA that broke up a meeting between Bavarian ministers at a beer‬
‭hall.‬
‭3.‬ ‭He forced the Bavarian leaders to take part in the revolution however his plan failed.‬
‭4.‬ ‭The Weimar police surrounded the Nazis and on 9th November, 16 Nazis were killed as a‬
‭result.‬
‭5.‬ ‭Hitler escaped in a car however was quickly captured and prosecuted for 5 years for high‬
‭treason and conspiracy.‬

‭ itler had gotten off significantly light as the right-wing judges sympathised with his‬
‭sentiments and his speeches in court gave him publicity.‬

‭ he Weimar Republic was doing well, the economy was recovering and radical ideas had been‬

‭suppressed. The Nazi party was also banned due to the Munich Putsch and the SPD remained the‬
‭biggest party in parliament.‬

‭ dditionally, as the Munich Putsch revealed, the Nazi Party did not have the support of the‬

‭workers, police or army.‬

‭By‬‭1928‬‭, the Nazis‬‭only had 2.6%‬‭of the electorate vote.‬

‭How did the Nazi Party change after 1923?‬

‭ itler created a 25 point plan which would set out the aims and goals for the Nazi Party, this was‬

‭written in his book in 1924. Local party centres were set up to advertise the Nazi party's ideas in‬
‭each area.‬

‭ he ideas in his book appealed to a variety of segments in society; these included business‬

‭owners, farmers, workers, the army, the young and the old generations.‬

‭ he support from the‬‭middle class‬‭was essential as they‬‭made up the majority‬‭in the electoral‬

‭vote. Big business owners also contributed funds to support the Nazi Party and so adapting‬
‭appealing policies to them was essential to the survival of the Nazi Party.‬
‭Goebbels would also run a massive propaganda drive emphasising ideas and policies that the‬
‭people liked and would drop ones that proved unpopular.‬

‭ he Nazis did have failures during the time period 1923-28 mainly due to the effects of the‬

‭Putsch and the electoral vote which they were incompetent. However, these years gave the Nazi‬
‭party the chance to reorganise the party effectively. They increased their membership,‬
