the exit, input, org..) (= European integration)
 So IR is why they are willing to integrate and EU Integration is ‘how does it
work’
- Functioning of the European Union/ EU Governance (comparative pol) (werking=
within)
 What does the EU do with the member states, what does the EU do with
opinions within member states?
 Need theories of comp pol to understand the functioning
- Impact of the EU on member states (impact= top down)

 we only look at the first two: history of EU integration and the functioning.

What are according to you the major achievements of the EU?

- Schengenzone
- De euro (eenheidsmunt= the single currency)
- Vrije markt in de economie
- Voorwaarden om deel te nemen aan de EU  economic conditions such as the 2
percent inflation
- Europese centrale bank


- the peace and security
- Freedom of democracy (freedom of speech, human rights…)
- Schengen zone free pass for persons between 26 countries (=free movement of
people, so you can easily cross over the borders of multiple countries, you can travel
without to show your ID etc)
- Free trade (free movement of goods and services and the Euro, the single currency)

What are according to you the most pressing challenges (uitdagingen) for the EU?
- To stick to the original motives and to take in account all the opinions of the member
states on the same degree
- Migration, climate, terrorism
- Economic issues like how the Euro can survive
- Public Health policies fe: the impact of the Corona crises

, The abduction (ontvoering) of Europe by nationalism and populism  there is integration
but it can turn the progresses of integration because of the voices in the background of
populism and nat.
