Chapter 11
Everyone needs to go to school but they want to do a protest for justice for Khalil. Starr
thinks this ‘justice’ is just to get a day off for school. She doesn’t protest and quietly follows
the lesson with her friend Chris and one or two other students. Other people say she needs
to enter bc Khalili was important to her but she doesn’t. Sekani wants to be on TV but
Maverick shuts him. When they are close to the store Daddy and Mr. Lewis are having a
discussion, Tim is also there. A cop car comes by and is really aggressive towards Maverick,
he almost … No, it doesn’t happen. Daddy is really angry that his kids saw this embarrassing
moment. They go inside the store and Kenya tells Starr that she needs to speak up, but
Starr says she doesn’t what and can’t bc of her parents. She tells her dad and he says that
he will protect her, so she can do what she wants.
Chapter 12
There is just a normal house routine, everyone is doing their thing. Starr posts photos of
Khalil on her Tumblr page and many people like them and shares them. We get to know that
Chris and Starr love watching ’90s films and talking about them and also reflect it on their
own lives. It looks like Starr still has arguments with her friends. There are again some
gunshots in the neighborhood. The DA (district attorney) wants to talk to Starr and she is
okay with it, but she wants to skip school bc she never again wants to hear about the fact
that people only like to protest for Khalil bc they don’t have to go to school. They go visit the
office of Ms. Ofrah and Dad tells he fixed that DeVante helps Mr. Lewis around the shop. The
parents also tell that the father of 115 will have an interview (Starr didn’t know). She will also
come to a grand judge thing to answer questions about what happened but it’s important that
her identity isn’t leaked. She wants to let everyone know, what Khalil’s name stands for. At
the end, Dad gets a bad call.
Chapter 13
Mr Lewis go hurt by 5 people of King’s gang, but it isn’t severe. He also says they don’t
actually want him, but they want DeVante and Dad gets angry and asks why. Devante
explains he stole 5G’s. Dispite Dad is angry, he helps Devante and let him go to uncle Carlo
and hide there. They show him the whole house and afterwards the doorbell rings it’s Chris.
Dad doesn’t know him so Starr finally decide to tell that he is her boyfriend. Dad freaks out
bc he is white and mom takes him outside they have a discussion about the fact they need
to move out of Garden Heights and the boyfriend. Chris said that it could be worse and mom
comes back inside when they are kissing (she also ask if Starr takes her piles, she is fine).
Chris leaves and Devante tells that he also find it weird her and Chris. He also tells about
Khalil and that he refused to work for King and needed to sell drugs bc his mother was in
depth. They just hadn’t a choice (same for Devante).
Chapter 14 pg 237-253
Starr goes to the house of Miss. Yang, inside she meets Maya and Hailey, they play
videogames and later on talk about their discussion. Pg 237-238

Starr recognises the dad of 115 and he talking everything good so that everyone believes it
wasn’t 115’s fault and he is a victim too pg 241-244

someone and risked his lovely job, one of the good cops following Starr, she says he needs
to pay attention for that, he can’t lose his job and Carlos tells he wouldn’t have killed Khallil

Starr and mom are eating at IHOP and mom asks what’s wrong, Starr says nothing but is

for an interview, Starr prepared everything with Ofrah, what she can and can’t say and they
shoot some photos, this is one week before the grand jury

Chapter 17
Today is the day of the prom and Starr is going with Chris, but he isn’t saying much. At the
party, Starr is kinda angry fro that and talks with Maya. Hailey is there too but she just pass
them.
There is a discussion between Chris and Starr after he asked for a photo, it goes about the
fact that he isn’t talking, but he says he is kinda upset bc Starr didn’t tell anything about the
Khallil and Natasha situation. They make it good together and go back party and this is the
best day of her live, she isn’t thinking about Khallil or Natasha. Pg 293-301
