1.1. Definition

Prevention is more!
- Delaying the onset of a problem behavior, especially for those at-risk for the
problem
- Reducing the impact of a problem behavior
o (You can't prevent ADHD, but you can prevent the negative impact of
ADHD)
o Through teaching social skills f.e. (child with ADHD)
- Strengthening knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that promote emotional
and physical well-being
o Not only focusing on the problem, but also on the strengths
o Strengthening positive things
- Promoting institutional, community, and government policies that further physical, social, and emotional well-
being of the larger community
o Rules to prevent, changing mindsets of people
o Ex: taxes on cigarettes, banning smoking in cafes
Less than 3% of the money goes to prevention -> all the other is going to healthcare & treatment ^
