MULTIPLE-CHOICE
Convergence Convergence is where the functionality of two or more devices is
combined into one device
Grid computing Processing power of various computers is combined to perform a
single task/solve problem

SD A common type of storage or memory card used in digital cameras
Micro SD A type of storage device often found in mobile devices.
GUI The type of visual interface used in all modern software, associated
with icons and a pointing device, e.g. mouse
RSI Medical problem caused by the long-term use of input devices that are
not ergonomically designed
OCR Optical character recognition. Software that enables a computer to
recognise characters from a scanned document.

RFID Radio frequency identification. Technology that uses tiny radio devices
to store and transmit data.
MICR Technology that allows characters to be read by a machine.
MICR reader An input device that uses a light source to read characters that is
normally printed in dark ink.
PAN A Pan is a network created by connecting personal computing devices,
such as cellular phones or PDAs. A PAN will extend to within only a few
metres of the user.
HAN A HAN is a network connecting two or more computing devices within a
home. A HAN will allow shared access to the Internet or to printers and
scanners.
Ctrl+P A particular combination of keys that are used to obtain a hard copy of
a document
Ctrl + Shift + Enter Column break
Ctrl + A Select the entire document.
###### ERROR Column not wide enough. You can fix it by placing the cursor on the
right-hand boundary of the column heading, drag the column wider
#REF! The cell reference is not valid (does not exist)
ISP Providers of Internet connectivity to homes, businesses or schools.
NIC An NIC is a computer hardware component that connects the
computer with the computer network. A switch connects computers in
a network so that communication can occur.
GPS A device that receives information from a satellite and informs you of
your geographical location.
HDMI cable High-Definition Multimedia Interface, typically be connected to
Monitor/data projector.
UTP cable A cable that will plug into the network port.

A folder A folder is a storage place or container in which you can store files or
more folders on disk.
The booting process The booting process means that the operating system is automatically
loaded when the computer is switched on.
Storage Storage is a place on the computer where work is kept permanently.
Storage devices It is the actual physical material or object on which we store data and
programs. Example: memory sticks, CD/DVD
Recycle bin Temporary place for files that are deleted.

sharing of knowledge and products by providing a variety of free,
customisable copyright licences.
Green computing Green computing is the environmentally responsible and eco-friendly
use of computers and their resources.
Emoji A device that receives information from a satellite and informs you of
your geographical location.
‘e-waste’ Old/broken electronic devices which end up in the trash.
Check boxes Check boxes allow multiple options to be selected.
Radio buttons Radio buttons allow only one option to be selected.
QWERTY keyboard It is a full standard keyboard.
QWERTY refers to the first six letters on the top line of the keys on the
keyboard.
