The issue of discipline in schools has long been a topic of concern for educators,
administrators, and policymakers. In my own context, I have witnessed firsthand
the challenges that teachers and school administrators face in maintaining order
and discipline in the classroom. As a result, I am interested in conducting a survey
research project to gather the opinions of learners about school discipline.
In my experience, discipline in schools is a complex issue that goes beyond just
punishing misbehavior. It requires a comprehensive approach that takes into
account the social, emotional, and academic needs of learners. However, many
schools still rely on punitive measures, such as detention and suspension, to
maintain discipline. This approach not only fails to address the root causes of
misbehavior but also perpetuates a culture of fear and disengagement.
In my own school, I have seen how a lack of engagement and motivation can lead
to disruptive behavior and disengagement from learning. Learners who are not
invested in their education are more likely to act out and challenge authority.
Furthermore, the overreliance on punitive measures has created a culture of fear,
where learners are reluctant to take risks or ask questions for fear of being
reprimanded.
Through my survey research project, I hope to gather the opinions of learners
about school discipline and identify potential solutions that prioritize
, engagement, motivation, and support. By listening to the voices of learners, I
believe that we can create a more inclusive and supportive learning environment
that promotes social, emotional, and academic growth.
