1. Discuss how well the attached “Curriculum Map” aligns to established Illinois Common
Core State Standards (NELP 4.1).

The "Curriculum Map" for fourth-grade math at West Oak Cove Elementary School mostly
aligns to Illinois Common Core State Standards (NELP 4.1) in mathematics. It comprehensively
covers standards such as Operations & Algebraic Thinking, Number & Operations in Base 10,
Number & Operations – Fractions, Measurement & Data, and Geometry. It demonstrates a
structured approach that aligns with state-mandated learning objectives and supports
educators in achieving student proficiency. The two standards that are not being met are
4.OA.A.2: "Multiply or divide to solve word problems involving multiplicative comparison, e.g.,
by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the
problem, distinguishing multiplicative comparison from additive comparison and
4.MD.A.3:"Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real-world and
mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of
the f 氀 ooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an
unknown factor." Ensuring that staff addresses these minor gaps in the curriculum is essential.
Skilled educators recognize these additions as crucial components of the overall learning
process and understand their significance in helping students achieve proficiency in related
standards.

2. Discuss student performance (e.g. assessment) data as it relates to the standards in
the attached “Curriculum Map,” including identification of areas that could be improved
(NELP 4.3).

When I reviewed student performance data aligned with the standards outlined in the attached
"Curriculum Map," I see many areas requiring improvement. A comparison between the School
Report Card and the Curriculum Map shows that each section of standards falls more than 5%
below the State average. This disparity indicates potential differences in how each standard is
taught with proficiency and competence at the school compared to across the state.
Adjustments to the current curriculum are essential. Transitioning to a new curriculum is vital
to support students in achieving adequate proficiency in meeting state standards. The newly
adopted curriculum would comprehensively address every standard and integrate them into
related standards, providing extended lessons that promote a deep understanding of each
standard before progressing.


3. Recommend modifications to the attached “Curriculum Map,” and justify your
recommendations based upon your responses to part A1 and part A2 (NELP
4.1).
