Marlene Rosen Fine – The Spy 8 This poem accurately portrays the effects of
cancer in a human by referring to the tumor
as a spy and the body as a battlefield. In my
opinion, this was very clever and made the
poem easy to understand.
Joan Annsfire – First Summer 7 The feeling of freedom after being cured
from cancer is very well portrayed in this
poem.
Mildred Erickson Buzenberg – 8 I find this poem very direct and creative. It
How will death arrive? reveals more depth the more you read it and
illustrates the author’s thoughts about death
during a battle with cancer remarkably.
James Doyle – The cancerous cell 6 The first stanza of the poem describes
cancer and its destruction of the human
body very well. However, as the poem went
on, I could not seem to decipher the feelings
behind the author’s words and that made the
poem very confusing.
Vera Kroms – History 7 The author uses beautiful metaphors to
describe the effects of a brain tumor and the
decrease in cognitive health when someone
is affected by it.
Stephen J. Kudless – On The 8 I find the use of a extended metaphor

Making Pies In The Dark author was trying to portray with the detailed
description of baking pies.

Greek mythology as metaphors that
portrayed the author’s fear of losing a child
very well.
David H. Huffman, MD – The Door 7 This poem was very direct in explaining the
author’s thoughts about cancer. Because of
this, the poem does not contain a lot of
depth.
Anna Di Martino – Drafting Your 7 The poem describes the feelings she had
