We conducted five reliability analyses for each of the support scales and one for the network
satisfaction scale to measure the overlapping construct consistently and if the items are
sufficiently correlated. The first reliability analysis was for the informational construct in social
support scale which contained names addresses, info career, tips suggestions, and share
experiences item. The overall Cronbach’s alpha value was .55. Since this survey is meant for
research, the critical value is .70, which meant the informational construct is not reliable. As can
be seen in Table 1, Cronbach’s alpha would increase to .59 if info career item was deleted.
Therefore, it would be better if info career was removed from this construct.

After info career item deleted from the informational construct, reliability analysis was run
again. This time, the Cronbach’s alpha value was raised to .59 which still not higher than the
critical value of .70. When look again at the item, as can be seen in Table 2, it seems share
experiences need to be deleted so the Cronbach’s alpha value could increase to .65. Thus, the
share experiences item was removed from informational construct.

When narrowing the items again for informational construct, leaving just share experiences and
tips suggestions, the Cronbach’s alpha value was .65. Even after deleting two items, the
Cronbach’s alpha was still not exceeding the critical value of .70. Furthermore, there was also no
more items that can be excluded to raise the value (see Table 3).

The second reliability analysis focused on the construct of instrumental and made use of the
facilities, intro clients, learn skills, practical help, intro job, do task for me, and improvement.
The Cronbach’s Alpha for instrumental construct also not exceed the critical value of .70
(Cronbach’s α = .62). When look at Cronbach’s alpha if item deleted, it seems the Cronbach’s
alpha increases when learn skills item is removed (see Table 4). Therefore, learn skills item was
removed from the instrumental construct.
