MENTAL HEALTH THEORIES

This paper outlines two different theories on how to treat mental health patients. One

theory is based on cognitive and the other is based on behavioral. Nurses need to have an

understanding of these theories so they can help patients identify negative thought patterns. In

doing this a nurse can promote healthy functioning and improve neurochemistry. Cognitive

theory teaches a person that their feelings and actions and actions are based on distorted thinking.

This allows the person to replace the negative thinking with positive thinking. I also chose two

theories that are both cognitive, to show the different ways we can go about applying this theory.
