Would the enzyme work best under acidic/ basic or neutral conditions?
(choose one of the 3 possibilities)
*3
From the curve obtained in the virtual lab, estimate the % enzyme activity at
pH 7

Answer the following questions:
What is the optimum pH of an enzyme (in general terms)?
This pH value has the most favorable condition for the enzyme to proceed at
maximum performance in the chemical reaction it is in.
Why is it important to perform enzymatic studies at or around the optimum pH
of the enzyme? Give three reasons:
Enzymes function most efficiently around a favored pH range, which is its
optimum pH value. It is crucial to perform enzymatic studies around the
optimum pH to avoid denaturation of the enzyme, disruption of the 3D compos-
ition of the protein and therefore, possible inactivation of enzyme activity.
