, With the characteristics of durable, strong, convenient and cheap, plastic have been
popular and attached to the daily life of many people. However, due to the wasteful
using habit of human, plastic is becoming a burden of environment and a threat to our
health. Currently, there are many campaigns around the world propagate people to limit
plastic consumption and some countries have even imposed plastic prohibition. In this
essay, I’ll analyze the harm of plastic waste on the environment and human health as
well as discuss the possible solutions.
The article “Reducing single-use plastic shopping bags in the USA” mentioned how
single-use plastic waste has become a burden for local government and given solutions
such as banning, putting high taxes on them or collecting and recycling.
Over the past decades, billions tons of plastics have been produced and most of them,
including bags, bottles and food packaging will not be collected and processed.
Analysts estimate that there are 8.3 millions tons of plastic have been made but only 9
percent of them are recycled. If the pace of use of plastic products continues to
increase, by 2050, more than 12 billion tons of plastic waste will be in landfill or dump
into the ocean (University of Georgia, 2017). As a result, these trash will destroy the
marine environment and affecting the lives of creatures.
When entering the ocean, plastics are dangerous to wildlife when they swallow or get
trapped in it. For example, sea turtles mistakenly call for floating plastic bags as jellyfish
and eat it, plastic cannot be properly digested and so it will stuck in the animal's throat
