SGA • Infant with BW <10th centile (customized for
maternal height, weight, parity, ethnic, as well as
gestational age at delivery and infant sex identify
babies at higher risk of morbidity and mortality)
• EFW or AC <10th centile
• 50-70% SGA are constitutionally small but fetal
growth appropriate for maternal size and ethnicity
Severe SGA • EFW or AC <3rd centile
• Higher likelihood of FGR
FGR • Implies pathological restriction of genetic growth
potential
• May manifest evidence of fetal compromise
(abnormal Doppler, ↓ liquor volume)
LBW • Birth weight <2500g
