What is Racism?

📎 Racism

A doctrine or belief in racial superiority including the idea
that race determines intelligence, cultural characteristics
and moral attributes.

Racism 1

, ➬ Discrimination is the practice of treating individuals differently based on the age,
sex, race, or ethnic or religious group they belong to rather than on individual merit.
Although a neutral concept, it has taken on a negative connotation.
Generally, it means denying or restricting members of one group equal access to the
opportunities and privileges reserved for another.
➫ Reverse discrimination is where the dominant group is denied access to
opportunities and privileges in an effort to right past injustices and reverse social
inequalities.
➬ Racialism is the idea that race determines specific characteristics and capacities
such as intelligence, moral habits and cultural characteristics, and that some races are
superior than others, ultimately leading to racial stereotypes.
➬ Racism is a type of discrimination where people are treated differently based on the
race they are deemed to belong to and not judged by their own character and actions as
individuals.

Racism is based on the racialist belief that one race is better than another and
uses this belief to discriminate against the inferior or lower-status group.

Racism makes an association between physical attributes and psychological
and moral attributes that are used to justify discrimination and prejudice, and
differential access to wealth, power and prestige.

Racism is made evident in the hatred, prejudice, antagonism and fear of
members of one group toward members of another.

The notion of ascribing moral, social or political significance to a person’s
genetic lineage and it is something we do not have control over.

Racism claims that the content of a person’s mind (not their cognitive ability) is
inherited.

Racism states that a person’s conviction, values and character are determined
even before they are born just by physical factors that are beyond their control.

➫ Race is employed in order to classify and systematically exclude members of
given groups from full participation in the social system controlled by the dominant
group.
