Preparing for a Hiking Trip
Before embarking on a weeklong hiking trip, it is important to
have the right equipment for comfort and safety. Some necessary
items to pack include:

 A warm and comfortable sleeping bag
 A plastic bowl, cup, fork, knife, and spoon
 A comfortable pair of hiking boots
 A lightweight and comfortable backpack
 A warm jacket for cold evenings
It is not recommended to bring walking poles, as they can be
hazardous when too many hikers are using them at once. Trail
maps are available, but not necessary as hike leaders will guide
the group along the way. Each guide will carry a first aid kit, so
there is no need to pack one yourself. It is important to stay on
the trail, especially in steep and rocky areas. Dehydration is a
serious concern, so be sure to carry an adequate supply of water
with you at all times.

Evaluating a Presentation
A self-evaluation form was filled out by two students regarding
their joint presentation on the application of robotics in a non-
industrial setting. The presentation was well-organized, but could
have been more academic. The best part of the presentation was
the professional-looking handouts, although they could have been
cut down by about a third. Technical difficulties were
encountered, and more practice with the equipment beforehand
would have been helpful. The delivery was average, but there
was room for improvement in coordinating speaking and
presenting material at the same time. Blocking the projector and
haphazard slides were also noted as weak points.
