1- For this assessment on my reflection, there were five sections that we had to do a self
reflection on, the sections were the following: Cigarette Smoking; Alcohol & Drugs; Eating
Habits; Exercise/Fitness; Stress Control; Safety/Health. The first two categories go hand in
hand. It asked if we smoke or consume alcohol or drugs. My family has a very strict rule about
the consumption or usage of these items as it can not only damage our entire body from head to
toe both internally and externally. We would also be damaging the health of others around us
through second hand smoke. Therefore for this section I received an Excellent score because I
personally dont drink or smoke or consume drugs. I even try to help those to not basically ruin
their health and whither away. The next category is eating habits. This specific category, targets
the way that we eat and how we are able to change some aspects of our diet on a day to day
schedule to live a healthier life. My family has a history of cholesterol and highblood pressure
which correlates to the amount of salt in our cuisine. Coming from a Punjabi family spices and
salt are a little on the heavy side as well as fats. With this in mind, for this section the score was
Good. Because of the heavy handedness of salts and fats, wherever my parents cook or I cook
I try to reduce the salt and the amount of fat used. I try to incorporate other cuisines that have
less salt and less fat , so that I can be healthier as well as my family. The topic of eating habits
goes hand in hand with exercise which is our next category. For this category I received an
Excellent score. Exercise and fitness are really important for one's health. Beauing physically
active and participating in events that help you lose weight and be healthy is really good.
Nowadays there has been quite an increase in obesity in children. Becuase of their eating
habits and their lack of exercise. I personally am a Bhangra dance teacher and I go to the gy
here and ther as well. I always encourage other family members and friends to participate in
these activities and become healthier. Because health is wealth.The next and finaly category
would be safety and health is also really important expecially when driving. Have to be safe for
myslef as well and be safe towards others. When I drive I make sure that I’m not putting anyone
at risk of injury. I recieved a score of Excelllent as well for this category.

2a. For this question, the social determinant that I have chosen would be culture. The reason
being, is that there are as mentioned on the social determinants wheel from the slides,
marginalization/ Racism, and discrimination. I feel like due to my culture, of being a coloureed
person in a south asian community, we are discriminated against I wouldnt say excessively but
by a little bit. One would be that being from a brown community, seeing mental health and
haveing therapy sessions when we feel like we need help is looked down on. Coming from a
community where our parents always think their child is perfect though they may be suffering on
the inside mentally. We are expected to be perfect, and in some cases we aren't, which is okay
because we as humans can’t be perfect all the time.

2b. Well I would start small and help those that are troubled in my community, due to the fact
that there are many teens in need of some help and guidance in their lives. The reason being,
(A) their parents are in denial that their child has any mental health and overall healthissues. (B)
It could be that their parents are modern to getting therapy but the teen wouldn’t want to share
because they wouldn’t want their family to know they are hurting inside. Personally, I would like
