Contraceptives ✔✔-antibiotics decrease effects and back up birth control should be used. -smoking decreases effects also. -risk of stroke increases with smoking and contraceptives Corticosteroids ✔✔-Increase appetite -decrease immune system -causes hyperglycemia and insulin may be ordered. slidding s cale -CORT, will be in some CORTicosteroids. -ex. hydroCORTisone (CORTef), CORTisone, prednisone, dexamethasone. NPH ✔✔-NPH peaks 4 -12 hours -if given in A.M. it peaks at lunch and is out of system at 4:00 Lab values for thyroid ✔✔-TSH, most important. If TSH is elevated it is hypothyroidism. Means pituitary gland is making the thyroid is working harder. -T3 -T4 Aspirin and prednisone ✔✔-Cause gastric ulcer -
