This patient presents with an uncomplicated urinary tract infection with no signs of acute pyelonephritis. Therefore, imaging studies are not indicated in her case. CT scan without contrast is the treatment of choice to identify renal stones. An ultrasound may be obtained to exclude hydronephrosis without radiation exposure. Pelvic ultrasound may be indicated in a patient suspected of having a pelvic pathology. Pelvic ultrasound is best performed on a full bladder. Do not have patients void before the test.
