-no p waves anymore (not coming from SA node) - ANS-atrial flutter criteria
-causes: underlying cardiac disease: long standing HTN, cardiomyopathy, CAD, HF, valve
disease, post open heart surgery
-blood pools and high risk of thrombus, stroke, PE - ANS-causes of atrial flutter and concerns
-control HR: diltiazem, BB, digitalis
-convert to NSR: amiodarone, cardioversion
-anticoagulation - ANS-treatment of Atrial flutter
-uncoordinated electrical activation of multiple areas in atria, no effective contraction of atria just
quivering
-worry about thrombus formation and stroke - ANS-atrial fibrillation and concerns
-no P waves
-ventricular rhythm is very irregular, no pattern at all - ANS-characteristics of atrial fibrillation
-loss of atrial kick/atrial systolic vol
-loss of AV synchrony
-reduced CO
